The University of Utah completed construction of their new primary data center in the spring of 2012. It was built using the latest data center innovations available at the time. The first phase was built to support up to 5MW of power. The now 90,000 square foot building has been prepared for multiple subsequent build-outs providing several times greater capacity. The design incorporates many environmentally conscious solutions. This data center is a multitier, multitenant facility. University Hospital, Education and Research missions are supported from this data center. Space is also maintained at the facility to support UEN, USHEA, UHEA, UDOT, UTA and other state agencies through cooperative agreements. Special preparations have been made to accommodate carrier presence. The intra and inter building networks have been designed using state of the art national carrier backbone principles. A 7x24 onsite staff maintains the mechanical, electrical and IT hardware. Students and Interns are an important component of the staffing strategy in support of our educational mission. The facility meets or exceeds many industry standards including LEED Gold certification and an Essential Facility seismic rating.
